Give Aloha Flier
Timelapse
This timelapse video shows my drawing process for the Give Aloha print flier I designed. A few design process notes:
I began by reviewing the event details on the Book Trust and Foodland websites, then I collected the highest-resolution versions of their logos that I could find online. Since being an “enrolled Maika'i member” is a requirement for the gift matching, and I assume a print flier for this event would be distributed and displayed inside participating Foodland stores, I chose to highlight Foodland’s Maika'i program in the copy and include its logo as well. Of course, any of these logos can just as easily be removed if Book Trust has no license to use them, though I assume partner organizations would allow the use of such assets in this context.
I did the copy layout and flier composition in Affinity Publisher 2. I pulled the event copy directly from the Book Trust event page, making a few minor copyedits for spacing and length in a few areas.
I used this photo as a reference for my illustration concept, which served as the initial background for my composition design. Using the Give Aloha logo as the light fixture above the aisle was an idea born out of constraint; I could not find a version of the image with a big enough resolution to make a transparent .PNG file with, so I had to use one with a white background.
I sketched the illustration in Procreate on the iPad. The final illustration graphics were done in Adobe Illustrator, with some final lettering in Affinity Publisher 2. Finally, I pasted the finished design back into Procreate to complete the timelapse effect in full.
